The 23rd Biennial Conference on Historical Analysis and Research in Marketing (CHARM 2027) will take place from 26 to 29 May 2027 at the Public University of Navarre (UPNA), Arrosadia Campus, Pamplona, Spain. The conference invites scholars to submit contributions on the history of marketing, advertising and consumer society from an interdisciplinary perspective.
Under the theme “Marketing History in the Age of AI: Understanding the Past, Interpreting the Present, Imagining the Future”, this edition encourages reflection on how historical perspectives can help understand current debates around artificial intelligence, automation, prediction, profiling, targeting, data use and decision-making in marketing.
The conference welcomes full papers of 8,000–12,000 words and extended abstracts of 1,200–1,500 words. The submission deadline is 15 November 2026, and decisions will be communicated by 15 February 2027. Proposals for special sessions or panels are also welcome and should be submitted by 31 July 2026. Topics may include the historical role of technology in marketing, the evolution of media and advertising formats, consumer and citizen perspectives, gender and diversity in advertising history, histories of marketing thought and institutions, sector-based case studies, and methodological or pedagogical approaches.
All submissions will undergo double-blind peer review and will be published in the open-access CHARM 2027 Proceedings. Full papers will be eligible for the Stanley C. Hollander Best Paper Award and the David D. Monieson Best Student Paper Award.
